This year marks the 42nd anniversary of the Earth Day holiday. Join the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center (GEHC) on April 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for fun filled day of Earth-friendly activities. There will be a variety of educational activities, nature hikes, crafts, movies, and games to help honor this amazing planet of ours.

Some exciting events you will not want to miss at the 2012 Earth Day festival:

  • Do you like going on hikes and want to learn more about the local flora and fauna? Join one of GEHC”s education staff for a guided hike. Kids will have a spring scavenger hunt to make the hikes even more exciting!
  • Meet Owlbert, the Great Horned Owl! At 11:30 a.m., Owlbert (and his companion Debbie) will tell you all about the fascinating Great Horned Owl. This session will also teach you about ways you can help protect other local birds and wildlife.
  • Did you just love meeting Owlbert and want to explore more about owls? There will be two owl pellet dissection sessions during the day. Dig inside to find out what the owls are having for dinner!
  • Worms are incredible soil workers that help breakdown waste and also add amazing nutrients to the soil. Discover the wonder of “vermiculture” and all that worms can do for you at our worm bin discoveries table!
  • Watch GEHC”s e-Planetarium. Step inside the dome to see a 360# viewing of digital movies about astronomy, astronauts, weather, and more!
  • Games, crafts, face painting, organic popcorn, and more!
  • Who doesn”t love Dr. Seuss and the wonderful environmental message of The Lorax? GEHC will have showings of the original (1972 version) “The Lorax” television-movie.
  • Nature Print T-shirts. Paints are set using the amazing energy of the sun!

All activities are included with Center admission. GEHC members are free.
