Developer Chosen for Infinite Energy Center Master Plan Development

The vision for the redevelopment of the 110-acre Infinite Energy Center (IEC) complex took a step forward this week, as the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau(GCVB) announced Atlanta-based North American Properties has been selected to enter into exclusive negotiations as the lead developer for the private development portion of the IEC Master Plan.

The 110-acre complexs master plan private development concepts feature a new mixed-use entertainment district that offers dining, retail, office and residential, as well as outdoor gathering spaces, structured parking and new and improved access to the Center.

The GCVB, led by CEO Preston Williams, has overseen the vision and planning for the development, initially issuing a Request for Qualifications in early spring. In order to help guide the complex process of choosing a developer, the GCVB also engaged the services of JLL, a nationally known consulting firm specializing in representation and consultation for clients.

“The RFQ drew a number of high-profile developers, and from those, North American Properties was one of our three finalists for the project, all of whom were extremely capable,” said Williams. “North Americans’ recent local projects included the development, management, leasing and marketing of the booming Avalon development in Alpharetta. Avalon has been recognized as one of the nation’s first urban burbs, a walkable, urban experience in a suburban setting.”

Our deciding factor was that we felt completely comfortable with the experience and insight that NAPwill bring to the entire process. Their vision is not only compelling – it is truly compatible with what we hope to see at the IEC complex, said Williams.

Williams adds that the selection was not based on buildings it was based on NAPs proven ability to also implement strong retail & dining line-ups, create buzz-worthy events and amenities, and to deliver the experiential, hospitable experience that we want to bring to our residents and visitors. Their partnership and expertise will be invaluable to our success.

“We are eager to begin curating an experience that is unique to Gwinnett County,” said Mark Toro, managing partner of NAP. “We will apply our learnings from other successful mixed-use projects, as well as meet with the local community and engage on social media, to create a vibrant shopping, dining and entertainment destination for the County.”

Gwinnett County officials, who in June adopted a resolution endorsing and supporting the revised master plan for the Infinite Energy Center complex, are optimistic as well.

Board Chairman Charlotte Nash said, “We are excited about the partnership between North American Properties and the GCVB. The vision for the complex began nearly 30 years ago, and the Infinite Energy Center has truly evolved into one of the economic drivers for Gwinnett County.”

Nash adds, “Turning our already successful complex into a vibrant destination for residents and visitors to come early and stay late, is a vital step up for Gwinnett in today’s competitive economic landscape.”
