Dr. MaxaA woman with breast cancer seeks comfort in knowing her doctor can provide both knowledgeable and compassionate care to treat her disease. Dr. Leela Maxa understands it”s not only important, but also necessary to provide women with well-rounded medical insight during their time of need.

“When a patient is lying on my table, they”re trusting that my nurses and I have the appropriate experience to treat them,”# says Dr. Maxa. “It”s our job to make them feel at ease in our care.”#

Dr. Maxa has been practicing as a radiation oncologist in Gwinnett for the past 15 years.# She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham – Medical School. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt University, followed by a second residency in Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine.

At her current practice, Gwinnett Radiation Oncology, she treats adult patients with all different types of cancers, but specializes in women with breast cancer. “I have a profound interest in the subject of breast cancer and I”m always striving to learn more to advance my practice and help my patients,”# she says.

Gwinnett Radiation Oncology believes in utilizing the latest top-of-the-line technology.# With the world-renowned Varian equipment in house, Dr. Maxa and her team are able to confidently treat patients without the need for them to seek care elsewhere. Using her knowledge and skills, she selects the treatment options that will benefit her patients for the long term. “With early or selected breast cancer, a lumpectomy followed by radiation to the breast is often the preferred option. It allows women the same chance of survival as a mastectomy while still maintaining their own breasts,”# says Dr. Maxa.

However, for every patient seeking care at Gwinnett Radiation Oncology, treatment options are individualized to their specific situations. “Every patient that walks through our door has medical circumstances that are unique to them. It”s my job to find the perfect solution for each one of them.”#
