General Manager of The Gwinnett Center

The Arena at Gwinnett Center may be best known for its concerts, but it is also the perfect venue for world-class sporting events.

The weekend of March 1-4, 2007, we are proud to be hosting the 2007 Women's SEC Basketball Tournament. Twelve teams are here to compete for the SEC title, including Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. There will be plenty of things for the whole family to do, including a special SEC Fan Fare, which will consist of interactive games for people of all ages. We expect this event to bring thousands of visitors to Gwinnett County and to the Gwinnett Center. The Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau would like to welcome the SEC and all of their fans to our facilities and county.

The SEC Basketball Tournament is only the beginning of what the future holds for the Gwinnett Center”s athletics. The SEC Women”s Gymnastics Tournament will return to The Arena in 2008 and the Women”s NCAA Basketball Tournament will hold the first and second rounds of the event here at The Arena, bringing the national spotlight to Gwinnett in 2009.

Along with these tremendous sporting events, The Arena remains home to the East Coast Hockey League”s Gwinnett Gladiators. In 2006, the Gladiators were crowned ECHL Eastern Conference Champions, and they are hoping to make another run for the Kelly Cup. So make sure you cheer on your hometown team and you can always find out the latest information at www.gwinnettcenter.com.

The Arena ice is not only utilized by the Gladiators, but also for events like Stars on Ice, The Hilton Skating and Gymnastics Spectacular, The Eastern Synchronized Skating Championships and Pee-Wee Hockey. The Gladiators even invited the community out for an open skate night last year to thank all of their fans for their continued support during their playoff run.

One of the unique aspects of the Gwinnett Center, in addition to our ability to host national events, is being able to accommodate many local organizations. In February, we held the Georgia High School Wrestling Tournament, and we will again be hosting the Georgia High School Basketball Tournament. We have held these events for the past few years and look forward to finding more success with them in the future.

The Gwinnett Center is fortunate to have three exceptional facilities right here on one campus and the Convention Center has also experienced its share of athletic events. Gwinnett Gymnastics has been one of the founding clients of the Convention Center and has held their Crown Invitational here for the past 13 years. We have been lucky to grow along with them and thank them for their support. Our numerous cheerleading competitions draw thousands of participants from all across the nation and we have even hosted a few bodybuilding championships.

So whether you come out to "chuck-a-puck" at the Gladiators games, support your child at a local athletic event, or root for your favorite college team, the Gwinnett Center would like to thank everyone who has made our facilities into a world-class venue right here in our own backyard.
