Gwinnett”s Healthy Quality of Life

Since this issue of Gwinnett Magazine highlights our thriving medical community and top-notch health care providers in Gwinnett County, I have an excellent opportunity to shine a spotlight of my own on that particular aspect of the renowned quality of life we enjoy here.

Of course, the biggest news is the recent opening of the new open heart surgery facility at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville. Until this year, we were the most populous county in the United States without such a facility. During a cardiac emergency, none of us should have to fight rush hour traffic to get to the hospital.

Many of us in the community wrote letters to the state in support of the need for an open-heart surgery center here. I”m so pleased the effort was rewarded. It was the kind of outpouring of support that has made our county successful so many times in the past.

Such state-of-the-art medical facilities attract doctors, nurses and all sorts of highly trained specialists and technicians who are welcome additions to our neighborhoods and the local economy.

I applaud the 160 investor and partner organizations in Partnership Gwinnett that have helped attract and create new jobs in the rapidly growing fields of health care, medical provider networks, and bioengineering.

I”m also very grateful to have Eastside Medical Center here in Gwinnett County as another major investment in our quality of life. New emergency and spine centers in Snellville plus a wide range of diagnostic imaging in Loganville bring lifesaving medical care and jobs to the southern part of the county.

Gwinnett is an attractive, economically healthy community because we excel at the basics – including infrastructure, transportation, and education in addition to healthcare. This is one of the best places in the country to conduct business, to raise a family, to retire, and to just plain enjoy life.

I believe we can build on that solid foundation to make our community even stronger and more attractive in the years ahead.
