Inspiring Passion and Dedication in Young Singers

In the final moments before a concert, choral members of Gwinnett Young Singers fall silent as Conductor Lynn Urda approaches. The music director meets the eyes of each child, their faces latent with the anticipation that builds before any big performance.

Lynn gives them a reassuring smile, emboldening them. “Make them weep,” she says.
Honing the kind of talent that tugs at the heartstrings of an audience is a product of the passion that Lynn brings to each rehearsal. She strongly believes that passion is a
reciprocal force.

“It”s about teaching these young singers to be passionate for what they sing,” she said. “We don”t do anything halfway. You have to find the strength within yourself and project what you love or the audience won”t be inspired.”

Having led Gwinnett Young Singers for the past 25 years, Lynn maintains an active schedule as a guest clinician, conductor and adjudicator for All-State Choruses and Honors Choirs, choral festivals, and workshops for youth and their conductors.

Gwinnett Young Singers provides an advanced and extraordinary choral experience for young people. A nationally recognized children”s chorus, the organization is best noted for its mastery of challenging repertoire and exceptionally high musical standards.

Among its many accolades, the choir has been featured on a Grammy winning CD with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and are featured on the PBS Special “Believe” with world renowned Irish singing group “Celtic Woman.” They have performed more than one hundred concerts with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra during the past eighteen years.

Gwinnett Young Singers offers programs of beginning through advanced choirs for children in 2nd through 12th grades, including Treble Choir, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, and the Georgia Young Men”s Ensemble.

Lynn said the organization also boasts an impressive staff. “I have so many wonderful assistant directors,” she said. “They are an incredible staff who make my job easier and help these children continue to grow in their talent.”

“Bridging talent, dedication, and passion is key,” Lynn said. “If you sing, you must sing with the kind of passion that will inspire all those who hear.”
