The 29th Leadership Gwinnett class begins a nine-month experience, in August, bringing to nearly 1,000 the total number trained the past three decades. In addition, the 2014 class will join Leadership Gwinnett alumni in an unprecedented five-year strategic initiative to raise $600,000 for program expansion.

The Key to a Better Gwinnett Capital Campaign Co-Chairs Dan King, retired, King & Spalding, and Tammy Shumate, Brand Mortgage, hosted a kick-off event, at the 1818 Club in June, to outline program goals. Among these are plans to attract a more diverse cross-section of citizen participation for greater community impact.

Early pledges have garnered commitments for 67 percent of the funding goal. “Platinum Investors” are BrandBank, Brand Mortgage, Dan King, Georgia Power, Gwinnett Hospital System and Mike and Sherry Tennant, each with commitments of $50,000 or more. Other early supporters are: Richard R. O”Brien; Accent Creative Group; Alice Cunningham; Allgood Pest Solutions; Peter and Carole Boyce; CAB Incorporated; McFarland Dyer & Associates; Renee Byrd-Lewis; McClellan, Allen & Associates, LLC; J. Michael Levengood; and Precision Planning, Inc.

Leadership Gwinnett, The Leadership Gwinnett Foundation and the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce work cooperatively each year to develop a group of leaders that ultimately create a legacy of success by applying their talents to drive positive change for our community. Chosen from a field of 350 nominations, the 42-member 2014 class will embark on a proven path of connectivity among influential leaders that establishes the basis for effective and aligned civic engagement, as well as providing a leadership pipeline.
