Bovis, Kyle, Burch & Medlin
High Asset and Custody Litigation
Bovis, Kyle, Burch & Medlin provides assistance to Gwinnett County individuals and families needing help with custody battles, high asset divorces, and complex litigation.

Charles M. Medlin leads the family law section of his firm where he has practiced law for over twenty-five years. He recruited members of his team at Bovis, Kyle, Burch & Medlin over the last fifteen years who attended top tier law schools, excelled in law school while there, and gained significant experience in other positions prior to being hired at his firm. His attorneys clerked for other Superior Court judges, worked in private sector jobs with high conflict resolution experience, and faced significant accounting and asset appraisal tasks with immense success. He also recruited prior clerks who worked at Bovis, Kyle, Burch & Medlin while they attended law school.

Each attorney has an excellent pedigree from their education to specialized skills training. They are honor graduates of schools, including the University of Virginia, the University of Michigan, Illinois University, Indiana University, the University of Texas, and the University of Georgia. A UNC and Duke University honor graduate himself, Medlin chose each for the unique qualities that make them interesting as people – people who can relate to a diversity of personalities and situations. These individuals deliver a premier legal product, coming from backgrounds in mock trial, debate, and law review.

Medlin and his team have cultivated a solid reputation within the Gwinnett County judicial system. His firm has offices in Cumming and the Perimeter area. He and his team appear frequently in Gwinnett hearings and trials, but always have an eye toward settling disputes out of Court when it is advisable to do so.

Whether litigating high asset cases or intense custody cases, clients have strong and experienced advocates by their sides. This team has litigated family law cases throughout the southeastern United States and has also argued before the Appellate Courts. Medlin has numerous reported cases, and he and his partner, Erin Stone, have been repeatedly listed in the Legal Elite of family law lawyers. Christina Gulas, one of their associates, was also listed this past year in the Legal Elite of family law practitioners.

At Bovis, Kyle, Burch & Medlin, clients benefit from sound legal advice, a team approach to discovery and preparation, and above all, a connection with people working first for the best interests of the family. Bovis, Kyle, Burch & Medlin also provides other types of legal assistance to companies and individuals.

Margaret Gettle Washburn
Offering Experience, Compassion and Success
With over 40 years of trial experience, the team that is the Law Offices of Margaret Gettle Washburn provides premier legal representation throughout metropolitan Atlanta and most north Georgia counties. “We understand the complex issues of business owners, families in need and those injured in accidents caused by the carelessness and negligence of others,” says Margaret Washburn.

“Our staff has a comprehensive understanding of the law in providing the legal services required in high dollar financial and injury cases, while supporting our clients through the emotional impact,” added Margaret.

For this team, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a client successfully navigate the rough waters of a divorce or receive a large settlement for injuries sustained through no fault of their own. “It is a true accomplishment to receive a hand-written thank you note from a child that was able walk out of Juvenile court and go to a safe home after the child survived the trauma of an impaired caretaker,” says Margaret.

Margaret serves as the Chief Judge, City of Sugar Hill and as an Associate Judge, City of Duluth. Judge Washburn is currently a Representative for Dist. 9 for the Georgia Council of Municipal Court Judges and is a Past President.

The firm, joined by attorneys Scott A. Mitchell and James Houston Washburn, offers an aggressive and successful civil litigation and criminal defense team. “We have small victories and great victories, but we celebrate them all with our clients.”

McKenzie Law Associates
McKenzie Law Associates is a family affair
Jim McKenzie and the staff of McKenzie Law Associates, P.C. puts a high value on the balance between business and family. Stepping inside their Duluth office, the
family-oriented philosophy is apparent as Jim’s wife, Ellen, or daughter, Erin, greets you.

Giving your legal matters to a small family-run firm has its perks, Jim says. “We give our clients a lot of personal, direct involvement and feedback. I find a lot of satisfaction in the personal handling of matters for my clients.” Jim McKenzie initially practiced law with large firms in Atlanta for ten years and has now been a sole-practitioner in Duluth, GA for nearly 30 years.

His practice focuses on acquisitions, litigation, contract review, shareholder disputes, estate planning, wills and trusts, and probate issues.

Despite being small in size, the firm has garnered national recognition. In 2011, Jim was honored by Martindale Hubbell/lawyers.com for maintaining an AV rating for highest or pre-eminent legal skills and ethical standards for 30 straight years. The rating is an accomplishment signifying “the highest level of professional excellence.” He
maintains the AV rating to this day.
