Heroes Project Update: Steve North
We last saw Steve North on the cover of our 2007 March/April issue as one of our Heroes and a prostate cancer survivor. Since that time, Steve has a lot of exciting news to report. The father of four”s oldest daughter graduated from University of Georgia (“Go Dawgs!”), another daughter graduated from Mill Creek High School and is currently enrolled at Valdosta State University, and his two youngest are juniors in high school this year.
Also, Steve and his wife celebrated 28 years of marriage this past August. He was promoted to Director of Support Services for Gwinnett County, which he has held since late 2007 when his previous boss retired. And, to top it off, he is four years cancer free!
“I feel extremely blessed,” he continues, “to have caught my cancer so early and was able to get treatment from a skilled surgeon that left me cancer free as of today.”
Today he is giving back, “I have been involved in Gwinnett Relay For Life since 2007 as part of the logistics team that helps with the set-up of the Gwinnett Fairgrounds,” he says. He co-chaired Relay For Life with Chuck Button for 2010 and will co-chair with Joe Doherty for 2011.
