Savage Jerky: Odds are in their Flavor

Beef jerky fanatics rejoice! Brad Summey, a local entrepreneur and former DeKalb County firefighter, established a company delivering a hand-crafted, high-quality product that will satisfy even the most daring heat heads.

In a market dominated by generic gas station jerky, a natural and flavorful product was in short supply. So, with the help of crowd-funding website, Kickstarter, Summey launched Savage Jerky Co. in 2013. The website raised over $20,000 in just 30 days.

Try Mojo Habanero or Ghost Pepper Buffalo…if you’re up to it. But if you’re taste buds are on the more tame side of the Scoville Scale, Summey suggests the Sriracha Teriyaki.

“It isn’t sweet like most teriyaki jerky. We use a whole grain mustard, cilantro and natural sriracha sauce to cut the sweetness of the teriyaki. We keep the soy products gluten-free, so anyone can turn the package over, read everything and feel confident that they’re eating something that’s clean,” he says.
