It is truly an exciting time to be at Savannah State University!# The start of the fall 2011 semester at SSU – the oldest institution of higher learning in the historic city of Savannah and the oldest public historically black college or university in the state of Georgia under the leadership of interim president Cheryl Davenport-Dozier, DSW – will see several new campus construction projects completed, a new forensic science degree program opened to students and the kick-off of a new era of Tiger athletics.

Make your way to Savannah State to feel for yourself the warmth of true Tiger spirit and experience the vigor and vitality of a beautiful, oak-laden campus just minutes from the sandy beaches of Tybee Island.# Take a tour of a new student center and first phase of a new, suite-style freshman housing complex that will open in the fall, as well as the renovated and revamped T.A. Wright Stadium where the Tiger football team will make its home debut Oct. 1.# Stop for a bite at the recently opened Tiger Express, a classic 50s-style diner serving up fresh biscuit sandwiches for breakfast and burgers, fish sandwiches, salads and more for lunch and dinner.

If you”ve got a moment, check out the new, state-of-the-art crime lab and darkroom where students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in SSU”s newest academic program launching in fall 2011 – Forensic Science, with a concentration in Biology or Chemistry – will be able to comb mock crime scenes and develop crime scene images.# The university has also been approved to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Secondary Education, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a concentration in Secondary Education.# Both programs are expected to be available to students in 2013.

Looking for an adrenaline rush? Get your heart rate pumping at one of the many thrilling Tiger athletic events, including football; baseball; softball; tennis; volleyball; cheerleading and men”s and women”s basketball, cross country, track and field and golf.# SSU is a new member of the exciting Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, putting the Tigers up against some of the top teams in the country in the race for a championship.# There are also a wide range of intramural sport programs available.

While you”re on campus, be sure to chat with one of the 4,100 (and rising!) bright, ambitious SSU students majoring in one of 25 different undergraduate and graduate degree programs and participating in more than 75 clubs or organizations – including all nine National Pan-Hellenic Council fraternities and sororities, an active and respected Student Government Association, editorially independent student media outlets, dedicated community service groups and award-winning music, theater and dance ensembles.# You might also run into one of the thousands of active, accomplished and generous SSU alumni who regularly return to campus to mentor the current student body while also reminiscing about their own days at the “university by the sea.”

Indeed, the Tiger spirit is truly alive and well at SSU, where administrators, faculty and staff are committed to providing each student with the best possible living and learning environment amidst a familial, nurturing atmosphere of academic excellence.# The university is rising, entering a new phase of growth and progress that builds on its rich history and the strong legacy in place since its founding in 1890.# Join us at Savannah State University today – you can get anywhere from here!
