Things That Make You Go Hmmm… and Cause Cavities

Ever heard, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”? Well, it depends on which doctor you are talking about.

If it is the dentist, hold on and brace yourself. Did you know that foods with a PH level of less than six are considered acidic and can set up the perfect storm for creating cavities? An apple, depending on whether it’s a red delicious or a yellow golden delicious, has a PH of 3.6-3.9. Other foods that are high in acidity include canned tuna, processed cheese, peanuts, coffee, tea, bacon, sausage, artificial sweeteners and ice cream!

So what can we eat that is better for our teeth and more neutral in PH? Try egg yolks, brown rice, tap or spring water, raw honey, blueberries, strawberries, kale, quinoa, chicken, shrimp, milk and peanut butter.
