Independence Day Celebrations at the Parks

Come on out to the parks for 4th of July Celebrations happening all weekend long!  Don’t forget, parking is FREE for Friends members!

Old Fashion Independence Day Celebration
A.H. Stephens State Park – Crawfordville, GA
Saturday, Jul 2, 2016 (10 AM to 12:30 PM)
Events will begin with our 10 a.m. bicycle parade. Decorate those bikes and join our ranger led procession. At 11AM, we will begin the old-time games in the field behind the office, which includes sack races, three-legged race, relays, egg and water balloon toss, and paddle board races!
$2 Event Fee, $5 Parking

Family Fun Picnic and Games
Red Top Mountain State Park – Acworth, Georgia
Saturday, July 2, 2016 (11AM to 2PM)
Friends and park staff are ready to welcome the local community and beyond to the park for a cookout and games. The park recently experienced a tragic fire that destroyed the park office and programming center. Fortunately, many of you have steped in to help during this time of crisis and we would like to thank you! Come on out to the park for some fun! We’ll be serving hotdogs and cotton candy and playing yard games in the field by the park cabin, next to the outdoor classroom.
Donations are welcome, $5 parking.

Independence Day Celebration
Fort McAllister State Park – Richmond Hill, GA
Saturday, Jul 2, 2016 (9 AM to 4 PM)
Join us as we celebrate our country’s birthday and our right to be free. Watch Civil War drilling, rifle and cannon firings! Also join in sack races, egg toss, wheel barrow races and other old-timey games. Fresh watermelon will be available too. You can even join in a Civil War-era baseball game!
Admission for this event is $8 per adult (18+), $5 per Youth (6-17), under 6 are FREE. $5 parking

Plains, Trains & Fireworks
Georgia Veterans State Park – SAM Shortline Platform – Cordele, GA

Join us for special evening train ride to Historic Plains for “Plains, Trains & Fireworks” to celebrate our country’s independence.
There will be live music, a street dance, games and activities for the whole family, and of course… FIREWORKS at 9:30 pm!

Ol’ Time Independence Day
Jarrell Plantation Historic Site – Juliette, GA
Saturday, Jul 2, 2016 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM
Put on your red, white and blue, pack a picnic, and spend a day on the farm. Hear the Declaration of Independence at noon and have some ol’ time fun with outdoor games, races, and ol’ time skill demonstrations. $4-$6.50

4th of July Fun
Little Ocmulgee State Park and Lodge – Helena, GA
Saturday, Jul 2, 2016 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM; Sunday July 3, 2016 11 AM to 4 PM
Take a red, white and blue hike at night, decorate your anything with wheels and then fall in a parade around the campground. Be creative with homemade hippie crafts, come view the parks’ live animals, and see what you can catch with a net in the lake. $1-$4 plus $5 parking.

Fourth of July at Mistletoe
Mistletoe State Park – Appling, GA
Saturday, Jul 2, 2016 10 AM to 12:30 PM
Starting Friday with family trivia night–brush up on patriotic trivia and gather a team for family-friendly trivia. On Saturday, the Hike and Craft will be leaving from the Campground Assembly Shelter at 10am. Be sure to decorate your bicycles for our annual Bicycle and Golf Cart Parade around the campground. Line up beings at 9:30 am. $2-$5 plus $5 parking.

Fourth of July Weekend Celebration

Start your Independence Day Celebrations early. We will be having a weekend full of events, games, and contests leading up to the Fourth of July. There will be activities for the entire family starting on Saturday July 2nd and going to Monday July 4th. $6-$8. $5 parking.

Crooked River State Park – St. Marys, GA

Join a park ranger on a Gilman Pond hayride field trip to view nesting birds and watch fireworks from Saint Marys and surround areas. Limited space, pre-registration required. Please call the park office to register. Waivers will need to be signed. $15.00 plus $5 parking.

Independence Day Colonial Faire
Fort Morris Historic Site – Midway, GA

Celebrate the 4th with colonial games, contests of skill, colonial music, musket firings, cannon firings and activities. Prizes will be awarded to all participants. Sponsored by the City of Flemington, Friends of Fort Morris and Liberty County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Enjoy a July 4th BBQ dinner over beautiful Lake Blackshear then sit back for an exciting evening train ride through the Sumter County countryside. Upon our return, you’ll watch the fireworks from the train while parked on the Lake Blackshear trestle. BBQ provided by Smoakies BBQ in Cordele.

Panola Mountain State Park – Stockbridge, GA
Slow down this July 4th and join a ranger for a leisurely stroll to the top of Panola Mountain. As the sun sets we will enjoy a panoramic view of Stone Mountain and Atlanta’s Independence Day Celebrations from a distance. Bring water, bug spray, and a flashlight for the walk back down the mountain to a waiting campfire and s’mores. $15 plus $5 parking
