Learn about Japanese culture at JapanFest. The large Japanese festival is in its 24th year and is this weekend September 18-19 at the Gwinnett Center Convention Center in Duluth.
The theme of this year”s JapanFest is Discover Japan. Visitors to the festival will get to experience dance and musical performances, martial arts demonstrations, and workshops where visitors will learn about kimono, Japanese flower arrangement, how to say phrases in Japanese, write Haiku and appreciate sake.
Local Japanese restaurants will feature the best of Japanese cuisine at the festival, and there will be a shopping marketplace for visitors to buy Japanese tea, rice paper and kimonos. Plus, there will be a Children”s Area where children will get the opportunity to learn how to make a Japanese kite.
JapanFest will also feature appearances by NASCAR racer Akinori Ogata and will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first Japanese diplomatic mission to the U.S. with photos from the voyage.
Hours for Japan Fest are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 18 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 19. Learn more about JapanFest at http://www.japanfest.com.
