“Connecting People who Care with Causes that Matter”# explains the mission of the Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia (CFNEG), an organization serving people for 26 years in the Northeast Georgia region.
“We help individuals and corporations to successfully achieve their philanthropic goals by providing a variety of tools needed to make a charitable gift,”# says Judy Waters, executive director of CFNEG.
An important part of CFNEG”s work is building permanent endowment funds. Depending on the donor”s intent, the earnings can be used for operating budget, scholarship funds, programs or to address other organizational needs. The CFNEG recently created a fund to benefit Gwinnett County Public Schools graduates. Since 2000, more than $1.5 million in scholarship grants have been awarded to students who want to continue their quest for knowledge by pursuing higher education.
Some of CFNEG contributions in the past year include supporting the Legacy of Lives campaign for Gwinnett Tech”s new Life Sciences Center, as well as awarding a $10,000 grant to the Gwinnett Hospital System”s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a $5,000 grant to the Gwinnett Village Community Alliance.
“The more a society practices philanthropy, whether through personal time or treasure, the more stable and strong the economic climate becomes,”# said Waters. “The Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia is proud to be a vehicle which provides the opportunity to design and shape our community”s future.”#
