Our People are Our Greatest Resource

Posted outside the entrance to the school district’s Division of Human Resources and Talent Management is a powerful and telling statement: “Our People are Our Greatest Resource.” It is a sentiment we strongly believe and often express in Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS). One of our strategic goals is that the district will recruit, hire, develop, and retain a workforce that achieves the vision, mission, and goals of the organization.

A critical factor in achieving that goal is ensuring that we provide our employees a work environment that attracts and keeps the quality workforce we need to continue our record of success. Toward that end we go to great lengths to ensure that all of our schools and facilities are safe, attractive, comfortable, and well-equipped for students and staff. Good stewardship of our financial resources guarantees we have the necessary budget to support our core business of teaching and learning. Eighty-eight cents out of every operational dollar goes to paying salaries and benefits for our employees.

The district is governed by a School Board that works effectively with the superintendent and staff to achieve the organization’s mission. We encourage civic engagement and strive always to project within our community a positive image that makes people proud to work for GCPS. We know that a positive, supportive climate leads to employees who are more successful, productive, happy, and fulfilled in carrying out their roles and responsibilities. That’s why we focus our attention and resources on achieving that kind of work environment throughout the district.

This “Best of…” edition of Gwinnett Magazine provides evidence that those efforts are paying off as GCPS has been designated once again as a “best employer” in Gwinnett County! Being awarded that distinction year after year by the readers of this publication, as well as others, is a point of pride for the school district. We employ approximately 23,000 people… dedicated men and women who are, indeed, “our greatest resource” and the real reason for our reputation as a “best place to work!”
